Difference between Modbus TCP and Modbus RTU

The Modbus messaging protocol was developed by Modicon. Within the protocol, both Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP/IP are widely used. Nowadays, Modbus TCP/IP is gaining popularity due to its Ethernet-based nature and user-friendly characteristics compared to RTU. Moreover, in the era of Industry 4.0, Modbus TCP/IP holds particular advantages as it enables wireless communication, being built upon an Ethernet foundation.
